Shuffle Told Me So.

December 10, 2008

inspired by Dawn

Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

The creepy thing about this exercise is that although these are ordered chronologically by how they popped up on shuffle, they kind of weave their own coherent poem. Sorta. Also this is much more fun to do when you have 3078 songs ranging from Ciara to Kings of Convenience. It gets somewhat steamy in the middle but the last stanza hints at a tragic end I fear.

Riding on this know-how
You are my sweetest downfall

why are you so green?
awake on my airplane, awake on my airplane
the beer i had for breakfast was a bottle of mad dog

I put a seed in my garden
when sky blue gets dark enough

I can’t get out of bed today
keep you in the dark
you know it only breaks my heart

ladies leave your man at home
nobody stands in between me and my man, it’s me and Mr. Jones

hey there,
my goodies, my goodies, not my goodies.
I have, I have you breathing down my neck, breathing down my neck
Hey your glass is empty
Look at the hottie in the tight jeans,
All these people drinking lover’s spit

I took my sister down to the ocean
Wish I could say it breaks my heart
I swapped my innocence for pride

HA it’s actually kinda fun! okay the next one sounds like a dysfunctional relationship… and strangely prophetic.

Grow old along with me

You say hello
desperate for changing

slide down the banister, land on your feet and open the door
the day you move I’m probably gonna explode

working in the corner, peeking over shoulders
I caught a glimpse
I am leaving you because I don’t love you
I woke this morning deep in the earth

When you were born
this day probably tore me apart and I didn’t even know it
I woke up early in my hotel room waiting for my alarm to go

It’s you and me
where gravity is dead
do you remember when we first met? I sure do:
An eery mood descends the farm

My eyes go where I say so, but not always, and not when you walk by.
How are you doing young lady?
They say an end can be a start
if i make it tonight it’ll be all right
If you see me at midnight walking the streets
